I’m always with you – information everywhere
The mobile web is rapidly becoming the new way of accessing information. Suddenly we are connected to the network all the time,
anywhere we go and we are continuously consuming information in new ways. As more secialised services for this medium are being developed, explore the issues libraries need to be aware of and see how we can make the most of the potential of these new devices.

9.45 am  Mr Anthony Hornby, Director, Library Resources and Technology, Charles Darwin University

What’s the goss on Web 2.0 social media?

This presentation will explore some of the current issues and uses with social media, including LinkedIn, Twitter, blogs, wikis and anything else that has appeared by July. It will examine how they are being used in different contexts for personal use, study and in the workplace. The Prime Minister of Australia has some 900,000 Twitter followers, so the community is engaging in these social media for government and business purposes, not just for  social use.

This presentation will look at the project and discuss findings such as a lack of dedicated Australian support, the difficulty of comparing open source offerings due to their individual nature and the difficulty of comparison based on price due to large pricing ariances between vendors.

Can we really manage information?

The paper outlines the governance requirements for an organisation, their impact upon information professionals such as librarians, and explores and raises the questions of the ability to effectively manage information given the plethora of compliance requirements. Through case studies, the real financial and reputation impacts of poor information management cultures are shown and tools for valuing your collection are given.

Managing media: building a media monitoring service for Northern Territory politicians and government agencies

Parliaments in Australia and  overseas provide access to media monitoring services for their members, either by building in-house systems or using commercial providers. The Northern Territory will soon be no exception. This presentation will look at a project for implementing a media monitoring system for the capture,  indexing and replaying of broadcasts that will meet the needs of the Members of the Legislative Assembly as well as NT Government agencies.
